Here is an example of what the Show Ring has done to several Types/Kinds of Working Dogs. As Helen Cramer states: "The collie must be the result of intermingling the various breeds known of old, and then making a careful selection ...

It's so much easier when you don't have to fight and argue. So many people seems to think if you're not having battles then you're not doing something right!! Why can't a walk be easy, if you find the tool to make it so, then use it!! I'll probably start switching back and forth in the next while but for now this is working well and once ...

My dogs do go to training and are fine with all old and new dogs. With the new dogs that come in, I just don't let them go running up to the new dog. I wait till the end of training, that way I know how the new dog really is. I take them to the park and to the beach and I walk them around the neighborhood. I always ask if it is ok for the dgs to meet. Some ppl r ok w/it and some r not....

The first dog I used the Gentle Leader on was an intact, 15 month old, male, chocolate Lab. It worked very well, I was able to switch to a slip collar after a week and had him walking fine with a loose lead with the slip collar in a week. After him, I had a series of easy puppies, one of which I never used anything except a Martingale. Holly was mostly a good puppy, but did want to pull....

How long do you have until the CGC test is given? Start NOW on working the dog with supervised separation. See if you have a trusted friend that the dog doesn't know (or only met once and wouldn't remember) that would be willing to come over for a little while one day and help you work with the dog. Recreate that part of the exam. Walk up, have a brief convo...friend: "hi there, how are you, nice...

"I think calling dog training an art form puts it in some mystical, magical realm, unobtainable by most, something only a person born with an inate talent can do. " I have to disagree with that. Art is something that anyone can enjoy. You don't need to be great. As long as you are satisfied with the results and enjoy doing it then that's all that matters. Far too many people who could ...

Nick, Lily does a perfect heel with the leash thrown over my shoulder, not attached to her at all, so there is hope for those of us still working on loose lead walking as I am with Moira. I thought the Jean Donaldson video was a great way to introduce the Gentle Leader. I caved in and have been using mine for our long walk. The first time I put it on Moira, Lily made me take it off. Lily ...

I brought her home... I met with the lady and brought my 2 year old. As soon as "Roxy" saw her, she immediately started quick stepping her front feet in excitement and she smiled. She immediately went up to my little girl and gave her quick swipe of the tongue. So, apparently she has had kid experience before. She came home with me on a trial basis until Wednesday. The lady had a ...

Some of you may know that I am a contractor. I was working on a jobsite today waiting for an inspector to meet me and was taking care of some small things. While down on my hands and knees in the front yard inspecting a sewer clean out near the end of the driveway a chow or chow mix ran up on me. I didn't see him coming and was bitten before I could even get of the ground to defend myself. ...

It was Conan's last puppy kindergarten class today, and he was "graduating", so I got DH to come along and take some pictures! He was a naughty boy tonight though, as you'll see... he didn't want to pay attention! Figures.. he was an angel the entire course and on graduation day his head is in the clouds. LOL! There are quite a few pics, as I'm a proud fur-momma: Here is the entire ...

Need some advice and you are the guys/gals to get it from In my condo complex there is a little Shitz Su (spl?) They've said the dog is about 6 or 7 monts old. I have only seen two boys with the dog, whose ages are probably 8 and 13 or 14. I have not seen the adults (Mother or Father) they live with. The older one has mentioned a sister. They've only had the dog about 3 months. The ...
