I recently bought 4 VFT's and 2 different breeds of pitcher plants. They are all planted together in a long 2' flower box. The soil is mostly spagnum moss and some plain dirt, no fertilizers. So when I first got them a couple of the VFT's weren't looking too good, some leaves turned black and they went kinda limp. Then I realized it was because I wasn't watering them enough, so I thoroughly ...

hi my Venus fly traps are outside and this week the temperature is going to drop below 40s twice. Should I leave them outside or  start to put them in the garage for the winter? Answer Hi Clara, Venus flytraps are native to North Carolina, so they are very used to cold temperatures.  At our nursery, we grow them outside throughout the year.  We've already had temperatures in the 30s!  So ...

Hi! I'm Kaylee, and I have five lovely plants; a chinese jade, an anthurium, two peace lilies, and have just acquired a venus fly trap! VFT Problem is, I keep my VFT inside at the moment because it's still a bit cold outside (rain, wind and morning frost), and I hear it's do-able, as long as I keep it fed myself...but does anyone know exactly what kind of bugs it will like? If I just pick ...

If it did catch the first meal of the spring, that is a good sign. A fast functioning trap means a healthy plant. You should be able to see the silhouette of the insect by holding it up in the light. Keep your plant in a tray of water(a cm or two) and never let it dry out completely. Start with a couple hours and increase sun by an hour every couple of days.

I just bought a small Venus Fly Trap plant at Meijers. It is in a small see-thru plastic container... I would like to replant it (prob. in the spring) to a larger container. I planned on keeping it in my bay window since it gets lots of light but not direct sunlight. With our weather here, I can't leave it outside. We're a zone 5-6 here in Southern Michigan. Hoping some Michiganders (or ...
