Looks like the Vatican finally hired someone who can code and you can buy tickets to the Museum online http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/tickets/do (edited to correct typo) This message has been edited. It looks as though you can only buy full priced tickets on-line. If you have children can you buy two adult tickets on line and then get the two children's tickets at the ticket office? Or is it just best to pay full price and avoid any problems? My preference would be to pay more if we could avoid lines.

I'm a bit confused and hoping someone can help. I am visiting Rome at the end of November and sent a booking request to the Vatican for the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel tour. Today, I received an email stating that (quote) "The payment transaction for booking ID XXXXXXXXX has been completed. The attachment present in this e-mail is the booking voucher that has to be presented at the ...

mindylt1, we are not 'foodies' either. The restaurants in my report are mid-priced. The nicest one for dinner is near the Vatican.

If you go on your own, there are some very good FREE MP3 guides in the Rick Steves Web site for Rome, Florence, and Venice. Just download to an ipod type player and take along. And don't forget your charger. Can also download a map of these museums. I have read in many guidebooks that the best time to go for short lines is early afternoon - about 12:30pm. Or get a guided ...

Sounds like you can do 4 nights in each spot - which is a very nice amout of time. In Rome, I'd suggest staying around Largo Argentina, Piazza Navona, Campo de'Fiori area, then you may walk everywhere. If you save a few euros staying by train station you will spend a lot of time on 42 and 64 buses going to and from centro storico. Christmas Eve is a mad house. A wonderful party in the...

New Vatican-Israel Tensions Over Pius XII Legacy The New York Times Tensions heightened this weekend between the Vatican and Israel after a Vatican official said that Pope Benedict XVI had halted the beatification of Pius XII, the pope during World War II, for fear of repercussions from Jewish groups. The official, the Rev. Peter Gumpel, a Jesuit priest who is directing ...

Quote: Never mind the Da Vinci Code -- what about Michelangelo's secret messages? On the 500th anniversary of the artist's first climb up the ladder in 1508 to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling, a new book claims he embedded subversive messages in his spectacular frescoes -- not only Jewish, Kabbalistic and pagan symbols but also insults directed at Pope Julius II, who ...

I have read many interesting posts from Fodorites who have taken tours of the Vatican (conducted by the Vatican or by outside tour companies). Almost without fail posters mention somewhere in their report that they booked a tour because it enabled them to skip the long queues to get into the Vatican Museums. I appreciate that tours often impart valuable knowledge that is hard to obtain in ...

Hi, I've been reading on this forum that its a good idea to purchase guided tour tickets to see the Vatican Museums to avoid waiting in line. But, I just noticed that you can buy regular museum tickets on the Vatican website and it says the following: 'Welcome to the Ticket Office Online of the Vatican Museums. On this website it is possible to purchase entrance tickets of Vatican Museums ...
