The Origin of Man              In 1965, fossils of Yuanmou Man were discovered in Yuanmou County, Yunnan Province. Yuanmou Man, who lived 1.7 million years ago was the first Homo erectus ever found within the boundaries of China. The two fossil teeth unearthed were from the inside upper jaw of a young male. In the same layer, stone chips and stone tools with traces of the work of man along ...

Root pruning can also be used to control the size of a tree. Pruned roots will only allow a proportionally small canopy to grow. But the tree is not usually dug up to accomplish this. A sharp spade or other cutting implement is used, severing the roots in the ground. But with a very vigorous plant (like a fig tree) this might be difficult to accomplish.

Sylvia, Alot of my info is from university extension publications. With any project I read, read some more and then read it again to make sure I don't waste my effort. I live on 5 acres in the middle of corn and soybean country. The weedy tree species (silver maple, elm, mulberry and locust) have taken over the property and I'm reintroducing the oaks/walnuts that once belonged here. ...

One that realizes that America's imperialist days (sorry, but I call a spade a spade) are coming to an end and it's time to turn inward a bit more. The fact that many GOPers are lining up Sarah Palin for 2012 is not a good sign that any lessons have been learned by the GOP. I ...

I was overwhelmed this year too. The biggest projects got done, at the expense of several smalller ones. Yesterday, I spent cleaning up the neighbor's 2 broken trees that fell on our side of the fence. Dragged the brush to the top of a garden terrace wall, then mowed our overgrown lawn, and blew the clippings into the long row of brush, so I have the start of a big compost pile. AND it is...
