Hi, from my workplace we use a proxy to connect to the outside world, including external ssh servers. The problem is that the server is seeing the connection coming from the proxy and knows nothing about the client behind it. The ssh connection itself works fine, but x-forwarding does not work as expected. In my opinion this is because the server is trying to use the display of the proxy and...

Well Tectia SSH was allready in use when I arrived but I believe it offers a higher security level. I've also checked a couple of config files such as sshd2_config and compared them with other boxes, however everything seems to be correct, including the permissions. I've also checked the /dev/random and also there the permissions are correct. I've also checked the .profile of the root ...

Hi, I'm behind a university firewall where nearly all ports are blocked. Therefore I've set up a ssh tunnel to my comp at home so that I can bypass the uni firewall and use bittorrent. I used mainly these 3 guides to setup the tunnel: http://freebsdcluster.org/~lasse/sshazureustunnel/ , Whalesalad Tunneling BitTorrent over SSH and FOSSwire A Very Easy SSH Proxy/Tunnel . I'm running ...

Certificate creation is the biggest pain with OpenVPN, but other then that it's the way to go. There are a few GUI tools like GnoMint for managing a certificate authority, but what I have done is just looked up the openssl commands to do it and saved them in a file that I can copy-n-paste from with different hostnames and such. That's good-enough for personal use. I am sure there are things like...

If you are fluent in SSH and you have access to a remote Unix machine that runs an OpenSSH server, you can get to any site you like, securly, by creating an SSH SOCKS5 proxy. See the SSH man page for the "-D" option. There is no company proxy that can stop/sniff this type of traffic. The world is yours. McCain Palin 08!
