Because Bella had a mast cell tumor under the age of 1, I decided not to microchip her. FDA had approved studies for use in humans (so that the chips could hold information like medical records) and due to studies in rats, which linked the chips to increased cancer rate at the site, they stopped all clinical trials with these chips. Yes, rats are very prone to cancer; however, if its not good ...

Daphne was chipped thru Central Fla Great Dane Rescue and they used Avid. I had Roscoe done myself and it Home Again. I think the problem is the scanner-not the chips. But I may be wrong. Sometimes when they are scanned by a scanner that is not universal it won't pick up the chip. No, it doesn't hurt. It is done like a shot/needle, takes a second and is super tiny.

Just a little nugget about Micro-chipping... I volunteer with a cat rescue and we took in a pure bred Bangel cat that was at MHS downtown. He was there for 3-4 weeks because he was micro-chipped. However, not all micro-chips are universal, meaning, there isn't some master database all of your pet's information goes to. In this particular case, this cat had a micro-chip that went to the...

To the OP that talked about scanners not being compatible, ect: There are two main types of companies now - HomeAgain and AVID (Mine are all AVID) which run on the 125Hz frequency. They are not only able to pick up chips from each other, but are also able to scan and recognize chips from other companies and are now universal. So compatability isn't much of a problem anymore. There was a ...

I was just doing some reading and saw this info on microchip digits. Geez, between the trouble with HomeAgain customer service and this AVID digit thing, maybe I'll just call 24PetWatch and see if they know of any clinics near me that carry it. The article I read...... AVID microchips use nine (9) digits and Home Again uses ten (10) digits. The universal code is to use ten (10) ...

1. Do all SCANNERS read ALL microchips, regardless of who they are registered with or manufactured by? If not, what happens if someone scans your pet but doesn't have the right scanner to "read" the information. Does it show there is a microchip at all? I know that all the shelters and most vets in our area use Bayer RESQ, which is a universal reader. It will pick up other ...

If you live in a state bordering Canada or Mexico, you may soon be given an opportunity to carry a very high tech item: a remotely readable driver’s license. Designed to identify U.S. citizens as they approach the nation’s borders, the cards are being promoted by the Department of Homeland Security as a way to save time and simplify border crossings. But if you care about your safety ...
