A few years ago, a member in my band received a similar letter stating that they wanted to buy 100 CD's from my band and give them to under privileged kids in Africa. When they sent us the check it was for 10 times the amount they originally specified and asked us to send them back the extra cash. We realized that it was a scam and contacted authorities. I would imagine people fall for these ...

Notice how the N.Y.Times didn't waste any space in this article discussing the virtues of public schools or charter schools in D.C. And what it could mean if the new President sent his children to one of them. I'll add a paragraph here... Public schools are also being considered for the children, as Chancellor Rhee handed Mrs. Obama the policies and graduation success rates in the ...

It seems to me that you read my post very carefully. I apologize that I have snipped a big part of your reply, regarding the origin of rights in the individual or the state. We have to snip something, right? It seemed to me to be leading off-topic. I deal with all that 9/11 stuff in the first two sections, but be assured that I did read it. Quote: ...

[quote]Home Eco-nomics: A Million Tiny Things It all begins and ends with laundry. Dishes, cooking, cleaning, none of it seems to bracket my days with the same insistence. Maybe it's the sheer volume of it, or the metastasizing way it colonizes every room in our house. Boulders of mud-crusted jeans and sweatshirts blocking the entryway, pairs of tee-shirts and underwear thrown by the tub before ...

Let me see if I understand this... Monopolies are bad. That's why we have anti-trust laws. Competition is supposed to be good. It's the root of our economic system of "free markets." But, when it comes to public schools, there's supposed to be only ONE game in town unless one is "rich" and able to afford tuition to send one's children to a non-public school. Shoot, in lots of places, folks can...

I have to respond to Iantochips and dainbramage. Wait a sec, the soap box is around here somewhere (darn kids never put things back where they got them!) Speaking purely for myself, my patriotism comes from the fact that America was founded on the principle that all men should be equal under the law. That government exists to defend the people, not provide for them or manage them. It ...

The town of greenfield has the most beautiful river systems that I know of, (They are above the central town river that smells of septic). The people are composed of hard working folks, extremely socially deviant people, and the extreme mental illness group as well as the high population of child predators. The society has no central community and the desperation of people who have lost ...

Marriage is considered sacred. In fact, so sacred that only one man and one woman are so privileged to part take. I read an article about columnist Dan Savage (who is gay) and his experiences in his native Washington State. Two lesbian friends of his, Amy and Sonia, were denied a marriage license because gay marriage is illegal in Washington. So Dan and Amy went to the clerk to obtain a ...
