Thanks for the quick fuel math - I do realise it's a small budget, but I think it's achievable. I've already had a couple of leads on borrowing a truck, but they've fallen through due to poor timing, etc - So, I do think that something will show up eventually. I will look further into car registration - Thanks for the tip Other options: Non-mile limited truck rental? Is there such a thing? ...

Welcome to the RTA Forum! Towing is generally forbidden by any rental car contract, so I think this will be a major challenge to find exactly what you are describing. The only real option I can think of would be to rent a Moving Truck from Uhaul or similar company. That would put you on a pretty strict timeline, and would offer only enough miles to cover basically the direct route (not ...

When I lived in Ohio, the Uhaul store actually rented out horse trailers. They were pretty cheap, but it was a huge, huge store. They also rented out RV's (the big suckers, like semi sized) as well. I don't know if that would help in your area, but you could give it a try.

You can stop by the post office to pick up a moving packet (change of address packet) which will have multiple rental trucks/trailer coupons.

There are other trailer rental places that rent more normal car haulers (not the junk that uhaul has), but I can't remember the name of the places. Sorry, I guess that's not helpful. But google should help him find a better rental option. For 1,000 he could just buy a used wood deck 16' car hauler.

Either do the rental thing - which is a great idea. The Hertz where I used to live actually had pickups to rent. Some dealers also do rentals. If not and you will tow again, then buy the DIY wiring kit and the way overpriced receiver from either the dealer or AtlanticBritish. It is very easy to install. The acutal ball and bar are very cheap from anywhere.

Mugszy; I do appreciate the help, I will check the U-haul tomorrow and let you know. Did you see the chock in Cornwall? Do you know the cost? On the possible trailer from you friend, I would pay for the rental of this if I do get in a bind and can't find one. Will let you know Thursday or Friday ( I am out of town for the next week). Thanks again, Bowdon Quote:...

with that much weight, and IF you are planning on doing this more than once, have UHaul install electric brake controller. It's hard on your brakes to stop that much weight, and in some states there are weight reqments for that. The rest is easy. The rental trailer should have a 4, 6 or 7 prong plug and adapters if you need them. & is most common especially if you are using E-brakes. ...
