$500 will get you a decent entry level hardtail. I'd go clipless, depending on what kind of riding you'll be doing. Basically, anything that involves pedaling instead of just coasting downhill and IMO you are better off with clipless. $500 hardtails are pretty much a commodity. I'd check Kona out. Then Giant. Then the others? (PS: Specialized has cheesy crap ) But really, not a huge ...

Back to the top for this old thread... So I thought I would post up again today on my old thread here, a little of a long-term update. It turned to winter real quick here about three weeks ago in Park City, but out of the wood work high pressure for 10 days+ and fall weather returns so I am still riding including today. I'm still high on riding from yet another sick day so I thought I'd post...

Yes, I wasn't trying to tout dual E6's as the ideal system. If I were buying a new light for rando use, it'd most likely be an Edelux. But I wanted to equip my two rando bikes, plus my commute bike and my wife's commute bike and the tandem (since we're starting to do longer rides together) and maybe my winter commute bike. And since used E6's and Lumotecs are starting to be available ...

We spec'd our Calfee with Chris King hubs and Velocity rims and they have been flawless so far (only about 900 miles so far). Be aware of the Chris King wine on descents some people find it annoying. We have our bike setup for both brake types but I don't see us riding with out the disc as most of our riding is in the west with long descents and I just like the security of the disc ...

Planning on building up a new set of wheels for my Giant Trance X2 (the WTB rims and no-name hubs that came with this build are the weak point of an otherwise pretty solid budget build). Settled on King hubs, but still uncertain about rims. I'm 200 lbs, ride pretty much XC (sometimes pretty technical XC, but no lift-served or anything and few if any drops more than a couple of feet)....

Hi guys. I just hit the 800 mile mark on a new set of wheels. The wheels are slightly out of true now, and since I use rim brakes, I want to send them into a shop for a truing and retensioning. Before I do that though, I want to ask if I am understanding the concept. If I pluck the spokes on the front wheel, they should all have roughly the same tone, if properly tensioned, correct? And for ...
