Thanks to all who have offered guidance on this matter. A crop sensor camera (30D) was what was sold to enable the purchase of the 5D, so I guess that qualifies for a Homer Simpson response - D'Oh! I have a very solid Manfrotto tripod and ring flash (MR 14EX) but have not tried the stacking approach that some have mentioned. Trial and error may be the best learning curve here.
