Uh oh. Hate to break it to you but you may be in for a world of hurt now. You have a double locking, floyd rose style trem. I'm assuming that you removed the locking nut and now the strings are only attached at the bridge and not still locked in the nut? If that is the case as it seems from your description, you need a hex wrench to loosen the strings from the bridge. Only thing is, chances ...

Thanks Rydock. I still dont the difference in the two clamp versions. They look the same. I thought the "big" and the "small" refered to the spring claw mount. You know. One thick and one thin. Beats me.

Ok, I'm sick of all the floyd rose threads saying, is it possible? What tools do i need? etc etc. So i'll make a sort of tutorial of how to do it. There are many UGers out there who want to do it but are discouraged by other UGers saying "don't do it, it is to hard", Well really its not all that hard. The aim of this thread is to help out anyone and everyone with their floyd problems......

Well, I finally bit the bullet and am back in the FR sufferer's camp. I've hated these as they've always been a pain to set up and intone but thanks to the recent loss of power due to a tropical storm I decided to see what I can do with an old guitar. What I mean by that is that I am trying to explore a different facet of my playing and have decided to bite the bullet and set up an ancient 80s ...

If the nut fell off you might as well replace it with a graphit/tusq one, and yeah as said a dab of white glue and string to pitch to clamp it into place. As for replacing the bridge, the trem is probably custom made by yamaha and may not be compatible with other bridges, but check all the post spacings and string spacings and you might be alright.

I will hunt on ebay maybe i can find an original pup and make it stock again. I would keep all the original hardware anyways if I modified it. Well I'll bring it to the tech and have him look at it and see what he thinks but if it goes out of tune alot when I play then I will look into a new trem. I'm just wondering the clamp above the nut, the screw is on funny, I hope it hasn't done any ...
