Installing a 2x4 travertine backsplash and have questions I'm getting ready to install 2x4 inch travertine tiles on a backsplash. The tiles are on mesh panels. My questions are as follow: 1) What size trial to use? 2) Is Custom thinset in white the correct product to use to set the tile? 3) Do you seal the travertine before ...

Omnigrip from HD. After it sets up if want to remove a tile you end up with a hole in the sheetrock. Also wait about 3 days before grouting

Travertine backsplash sealer I just laid a travertine backsplash in the kitchen. What is the best sealer to use? I want a non-enhancing sealer. You guys are the greatest and I wouldn't think of doing a tile project in my house without checking this forum first. Thanks! Charlene

Hi Charlene, Welcome! I favor Brian's suggestion of Duponts Stone Tech Impregnator Pro. I have also had great success with Surface Treatment Technologies SB. Lastly, Aqua Mix's Sealers Choice has performed well for many of our members.

Greetings! Just installed tumbled travertine as a kitchen backsplash. Looks good but it's quite a bit darker after grouting/cleaning and I prefer the original lighter tone. Is this normal or is there any way to 'lighten' or bleach the stone? Many thanks! Answer Hi Did your grout dry for 24 hours? when the grout still wet the color is dark. But if it is already dry, so that's is ...

It is all up to your personal preferences. If you’re not a fan of the hole-like appearance, installers will often fill these with grout . You will find travertine tiles in “filled” and “unfilled” forms. Keep in mind also that filled travertine tiles are far simpler to clean and maintain . That sounds really lovely Jojo. In regards to the backsplash, have you considered mimicing a similar design on a smaller scale for the backsplash? Instead of using 4 inch tiles, cut the tiles into quareters so you have 2 inch tiles and then use thinner pencils? (some places even carry 2 inch tiles)
