Question Hi there. I have built a set of oak patio doors and have purchased axminsters aquamac 21 weather seal and related cutter to weather proof the frame. This then makes it a ...

Hello all you well informed crew, I would like your views on the following scenario. Currently, my household is burning 1000litres of Kerosene every 6 – 8 weeks, that’s over 7 to 8 months each year (less during “summer”) I have decided to do something about it and have learned a lot from this Forum. What I propose to do is to outline...

First of all you probably don't. People have been hammering nails, pins and staples into timber for centuries using an ancient tool called a hammer. However if you prefer to use machines to do the work then I'd imagine a brad nailer or HD stapler would do you. These are available dirt cheap nowdays although quality varies. An aircomprssor nail gun is just a nail gun run off compressed air. The ...

Hi, last house I built was a 1800sq ft - cost €30k timber frame, €74k building costs inc groundwork. Other major costs involved are joinery, electrics and plumbing. Always make sure you have enough contingency within your budget

Wallis - Your bench is looking great so far! I built a bench a couple of years ago (pic attached), working from David Charlesworth's design from one of his books. The "Schwarzappfel" base looks a lot like the Charlesworth design, but I guess that's no surprise -- big honkin' lumber with timber-frame size joinery really helps to keep things together. With the Record vises, my bench weighs in ...
