Doing electrical work I manage to run into a lot of people who are obsessive compulsive enough to be really bothered by a switch being in the up position when no lights are on or vice versa. Yesterday it was my father. He had me do some work at his house. He has a stairway to his basement that exits from his kitchen. The basement also has a walk in door from outside. When I did the lights ...

Alright, let me preface this with: I'm somewhat of a novice electrician. I've learned solely by doing improvements on my house. Alright, now that we've got that out of the way... Our bathroom has 2 switches that control the same light fixture. I am told that this refers to a 3-way switch (versus a single pole). Here is where it gets tricky...I'm going to assume that before I replaced one ...

I suspect the answer is no, but I had to ask: Costco has a killer deal on motion-sensing switches...less than cdn$10 each. At least one of the places I want to put one has 3-way switches (ie you can switch light from two places) - and I'd like to put a motion sensing switch on one. It'd make the second one somewhat redundant anyway. I suppose I could disconnect the red wire and leave the ...

Thanks, I understand it's a little more complicated, I was not being very clear. I'll still probably buy a pair, there's a couple of places I can use them.

Because a rotary switch does not have that "in between" setting common to 3 way switches, which selects two pickups at the same time, it is neccesary that each of the three pickups get it's own pole which switches it into the output at various positions. You will need a 3P7T rotary switch. I just checked Mouser, and I'm having a hard time finding one. I was going to suggest actually that...
