INTRAHEPATIC CHOLESTASIS OF PREGNANCY (ICP) It is also termed Obstetric Cholestasis, gives rise to troublesome itching during pregnancy but may lead to possibly serious complications for the mother and very serious outcomes for the fetus. ICP occurs most commonly in the third trimester, but can begin at any time during the pregnancy. It is also the second most common cause of jaundice in...

"Give the mother steroids" (dangerous drugs) and make her wait until she is at least 6 or 7 months pregnant (increasing medical danger) For babies in the womb If preterm delivery is likely, you may be given medications to help prepare your baby for birth. Cortico steroids such as betamethasone and dexamethasone can help speed your baby's lung ...

"I always understood you could keep up the same level of activity if there are no complications w/ your pregnancy, up until the 3rd trimester."   That's what I understood as well.  I asked about exercise and he gives me the limit.  I tell him I won't even break a sweat with it and he says, "Those are the pregnancy rules." Perhaps he meant the third trimester?  I just don't want to go ...

Replying to: Assisted delivery?? It's funny, I never heard of a "vacuum" until I started my current job. Our group did some research on OB quality care indicators so this topic came up. My boss was telling me that his most recent child was delivered with the help of a vacuum, and that it seemed to go well. Apparently, it leaves a little red mark on the child's head for like a week or so ...

As your pregnancy progresses, your baby may begin to seem more real. You may hear the heartbeat at your prenatal appointments, and your enlarging abdomen may force your favorite jeans to the back of the closet. While you're adjusting to the changes in your body, fetal development takes on new meaning. Two months ago, your baby was simply a cluster of cells. Now he or she has functioning ...
