I was thinking of a career as a machinist is the pay good. And why type of qualifications do you need. Also if I did this jn the army, would this be a good way to gain experience that would transition well into the civilian life?

One of the reasons I made the roadtrip to PA was to roundup and bring home whatever I could find from Dad's career in the machinist trade. Here is some pics of some of what came home with me. I wasn't able to locate Dad's older edition of the Machinery's Handbook (My sister put it in a safe place ) hopefully it will turn up and can be shipped out. I also brought back his Kennedy Machinist Box ...

These came from a garage clean-out - there were a lot of old tools. I think these are called machinist squares. The blades of two are quite square compared to a new Grizzly steel square (the small brass square is slightly splayed). The inside blade on all 3 does not have a perfect straight edge. I imagine they are not valuable and I could restore using abrasives, but sometimes it is smart to ...

I am currently living in the Madison, WI area and am looking into possibly moving to the Houston area. Done some research on the net and it seems as though the Houston area has a strong manufacturing base. However, I know some of that information may be outdated and I wanted to see if anyone could tell me what the current situation down there might be. There is virtually nothing in the area ...

I do a little repair work / fabricating for people in town. I have 20 acres of wooded land, a small tractor with a backhoe and several other attachments that I've made for it. My wife and I spend time in our 5th wheel camper ...
