I think Linda Blair was robbed of an Oscar and I think its one of the best performances by a child on celluloid. Ellen Burstyn deservedly was nominated for best actress.

I really liked it. The more I think about it, the more I like it actually. I think that the effect was probably greater back in the early 70's, when people weren't as desensitized, but I didn't find it as disturbing as I had heard. My mom told me she saw in it theatres and was freaked out and disgusted. I didn't find it that intense. Some parts were a bit laughable, like the "spider walk" ...

.....that hasn't been remade. Judging by the excrement that was Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005) , a direct remake of the orginal can't be far behind.
