Wow, Ignorance is bliss I guess. I'm not going to argue with the 'internet tough guy' because its stupid as shit. Also, I can understand your kids 'slang' but we aren't text messaging. You have a full keyboard. Use it to your advantage. MOST reputable forums will temporarily ban you if you cannot exercise proper 'gramer'. Carry on. Quote: ...

My co-teacher and I do exercises where we give a piece of writing written in "code" (omg, lol, jk, and other slang) and students have to rewrite it formally (jokingly, we say like a British professor). This is always a fun exercise. I do not often use abbreviations - and if I do, its only when I text, and only occasionally. I tell my ...

Generally: 1. All publicly displayed messages are limited to English only. Keep internet slang and '1337' to a minimum. Try to make sure posts, titles, signatures, profiles and other forms of text are correct in both spelling and grammar. 2. Neither the administrators, moderators, leaders or users are responsible for any damage caused directly or indirectly to the extent permissible by law. We...

Kids do whatever people tell them is cool or what fits in, no matter how stupid or silly it is. For example, hip-hop, rap, ghetto slang talk, text messaging, punk wannabes, emo etc...

Keep your heads up, gentlemen, writing well is an important skill. It's good to see that Po'boy's prof is specifically forbidding contractions, slang, and first-person voice...all of which are acceptable for text messaging, but never for scholarly work, contract writing, proposals, grant applications, and all the other vehicles by which respect is won and money changes hands. Set aside your...

jbn wrote: I just realised that I'm not sure anyone has mentioned 'defenstrate'. It's so specific, it's so generally violent in its meaning. A powerful word wouldn't you say? My guess is that most people discover that word some time between the ages of twelve and twenty-six, and (in their youthful reverie) are attracted to the irony of such an active, comical verb having such a stodgy, ...

you lost me at Rob Zombie's Halloween was good. For that, I should just say "fuck you!" and move on. But, sadly, you do have a point (until the Halloween thing.) Yes, posters do like bitching about everything (that's part of the fun) but sometimes they make valid points. Of course there will be remakes. But, they won't all be good. Rob Zombie's "reimagining" was a pile of shit and somewhere deep...
