[quote= Lynne;1034968] Straight punches are allowed to the head. Sometimes, judges will not allow backfists as it's not too hard to do a knock out; often they will not even allow a fake backfist as a set up for a reverse punch due to students' lack of control. Sometimes, judges will allow backfists regardless of what the rules say.quote] Lynne, I have trained and sparred with practitioners...

If you can do more than just one class, I would go with Judo and Karate/Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do has a lot of kicks that are mainly used for point-sparring, which are completely pointless, but some kicks are wicked. And it really depends on what type of Karate is being offered. There's a lot of different styles out there. And of course, Judo, like everyone else says. You're going to be ...

Taekwondo is no joke, except to people who don't truly know it. I believe that martial arts training can be beneficial for every human being, and good for society as a whole. Not every martial arts student is looking to become a great fighter. But becoming a great fighter is possible, regardless of which style you lay your foundation in. I find that martial arts students come...

When I was a kid I tried kararte do... In college I did, Tang Soo Do, Hapkido (trained by the founder ), and I still do TKD (from the world Tae Kwon Do Federation). WTF... is mostly based on sparring (Olympic sparring). I can go months without doing a single form so I love it There are too many TKD schools around that are mcDojos so I do understand why people think ...

It's not a true accusation, but that is what everyone else wants you to think. Many of the best schools and best teachers have aspects of " McDojo". From Tae Kwon Do, to karate, to the "Gracie Academies", all of these contain "symptoms" of McDojo. My own school has some aspects that some would think are McDojo, but I know my Master is legit because of his credentials. Some people ...

I have done tae kwon do for about 7 years along with boxing for 3 and wrestling for 4. now that I am in college in montana carless and jobless, i can't really afford to continue formal martial arts training. However, I have access to a very nice recreation center and gym that has the things I need (heavy bag, skinny bag, speed bag, mats, jumprope, etc.). I have never gone that long without going...
