As much as I hate to say it, Tae Kwon Do is a joke in the States (at least in MD). The good schools are few and far between. Many of them will use the Japanese terminology and even market themselves as "karate" in order to attract a larger audience. To make a long story short... I have a nine year old son with Tourettes Syndrome who is getting made fun of, picked on and beaten up because of it.
