Before I found this wonderful forum, a Google search took me to this website , where I found the following: Quote: Castrol Egde! Syntec isn't a true synthetic. True synthetics have something called paoi additives. Syntec does not have this. Edge on the other hand is a true synthetic. It has the paoi contents in the oil. Also Edge is the factory fill for exotic auto makers such as Aston Martin...

Not sure if this will be of benefit or not. I have been running the 5/30 Castrol Syntec in my car. Autozone has 5 1/2 Qt jugs on sale w/ a K&N oil filter for $27.99 through Weds. I bought 2, so I got 10+ qts of oil and 2 filters for about $60 + tax...Good deal in my opinion.. Steve

We are on our second OCI of Syntec 5w40 for my son's Rabbit. We just aren't thrilled with the oil and will be moving to GC. But I have a question that I am afraid to post over on the forums..... Is GC 0w30 the best oil, hands down, for any vehicle spec'd for a 30wt? As I study the numerous UOA's, across a variety of vehicles, it seems that GC has the least amount of wear, regardless of ...

I was looking at the cSt #s and I see that the syntec blend not the full syntec is a little thicker than gtx in 5w30. Are these oil very close to the same or is the syntec blend better? Also the 5w30 syntec blend says it meets ACEA A1. Anyone know what that is?

Does anyone happen to have, or know of, comparable UOAs of similar AMSOIL & Syntec motor oils? I know this is a shot in the dark, but as similar of vehicles as possible and common oil weights (plus the possibility of the same lab) could give a fairly decent idea of the two. I've searched and not come up with much in hand. VOAs would be icing on the cake! Thanks in advance.

Hi folks. Anyone know the cold pour point of Castrol Syntec 10w30? or ANY of Castrols oils for that matter? They dont list them anymore on their MSDS sheets. That used to be where Castrol listed them. Thanks

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 with 28K miles on it. When new I would run M1 5W-30. At about 15K I switched to Castrol Syntec 5W-30 and the engine ran alot quieter. No valve noise. I am considering switching to A HDEO such as Rotella T syn. 5W-40 as I understand these motors like the HDEO. Any thoughts? I typically change the oil at 4K to 5K intervals. I realize that the oil would go alot ...

I was looking at oil and I noticed Mobil 5000 was the only conventional oil that had a dual API rating for spark engines and diesel, SM/CF. And Mobil 1 and Castrol Syntec were the only synthetics that had the dual rating of SM/CF. What is the significance of the oil having a dual rating besides use in a diesel and for gasoline engine use? I imagine some of these other oils probably are CF rated...

10/23/09: least we forget: Press Release: "...The second reason the Company identified for the name change from "Syntec Biofuel" to "Synthenol" is that this change signals the expansion of the Company's research and development beyond merely biofuels. While its original model was based solely on the utilization of biomass or biogas-the so called "green gases"-its ability to produce mixed alcohols...

so for the past 20-25k miles i've used castrol syntec 5w30 full synthetic. Im thinking about starting to use motul 8100 x-max 5w30. I've heard that it is a really good oil. Just wondering if there is any benefit to run this over other oils and if anybody has any experience with it.
