I have a Calycanthus bush growing in a niche on the SE corner of my house in Homosassa. I'm not familiar with this plant - only ID'd it when it bloomed last spring. It's tall, but sparse - a bunch of unbranched stems to ~10 ft, with not too much foliage. I was thinking that pruning might encoutrage it to thicken up, but I don't know when blossom set happens, and I'd hate to take off all next ...

Eileen, If I remember, I think they flower on new growth. At least the flowers are out on the end of the stems, which should be new growth. I would think, going into winter would be a good time to prune them way back. I had some years ago, but can't remember doing anything special to them at all. I would cut mine back almost to the ground and they would grow back from that. I had lots of ...

Sweet Smelling Shrub

The leaves of this shrub smell nice when rubbed. It has white flowers in spring and has grown large (about 6 foot tall, and bushy) in my garden in Southampton UK. Would someone name it please? Image link: Sweet Smelling Shrub (47 k)
