By CL member request, a review of the 2009 VW Jetta TDI Diesel. http://www.vw.com/jetta/tdi/en/us/ In a Nutshell: Forget the junk VW diesels of 30 years ago....this is a whole new ball game. I was swapping engines on my 72 Super in my driveway when a neighbor came over and introduced himself. He told me about all the other people in our neighborhood who are restoring cars, and told me about a Super Beetle parts car he had just acquired. Said he knew nothing about Bugs, had no idea what year it was, but it was going to the scrap metal yard, and would I be interested in it. Well, it's ...

The passengers side is ground for the defroster strips. If the wire is missing replace it. Other than that, plug the wires up, turn it on and use a volt meter to check for voltage between the 2 connections. If you've got voltage the window strips are bad. If you've got nothing there then you'll need to get a wiring diagram for your car and start tracing wires back to the relay under the rear seat...

When you say "first notch" is that in the off position, or is it in the on position? When you turn your key on, before you turn it to the start position, the gen light should light up as well as the oil light. If not, your not getting power to the light base in the back of the speedo. Check fuse #12, passengers side of fuse box. If the fuse is good, check the wiring in the back of the ...

I have been having some trouble with my 73 super beetle lately and I think that the fuel filter may be clogged but I'm not sure. It started about two weeks ago after I bought gas at a different station than I normally do (but that could simply be a coincidence). When I went to drive to work the next day (which is right across the street) it was stalling and not acting right. When it was about ...

Yesterday morning i went to go drive my 73 super beetle, but before i did i wanted to check the oil. I checked the dipstick and it was quite possibly as high as it could be and was not oily at all, it was gassy. So the obvious thing to say is that the fuel pump has broken and allowed this, but as i looked at my carburetor i noticed that there was a bit of fuel dripping off of it. In fact, when i ...

Just so you know, I'll make a second post of the short version. And now for the more detailed version. So, day starts off like usual, just kind of relaxing and waiting around for my girlfriend to get off work. They kept her there an extra 30 minutes which was annoying, but oh well, she still gets paid. Once she gets out she texted me to let me know. Then a few minutes later she calls and ...

Question Hello, I drive a 78 VW super beetle convertible. whenever i turn the key it will start but as soon as there is no pressure on the key it will die. i have looked in the fuel filter and it looks like it is half way full. any ideas? Thank you. Answer Lindsey,  I believe the problem is the fuel pump switch within the air box.  To test: - Turn the ignition ON (not START). ...

First off, i'm not sure where to ask aircooled tech questions, so i assumed most people reading this forum could help me out. I just bought a 73 super beetle. The problem i'm having is that it doesn't like to keep running when you try to move it. The bug was a daily driver when it was sat about a year ago. It ran great then. When i went to start it today, it ran, but very choppy at idle. Off ...

I bought a 72 super on Thursday of last week and when I was buying it I made sure that it started up. I turned it off and on and every time that I tried it started up like a champ. Towed it home and when trying to get it off the trailer it tried to start a couple times and then BAM! nothing. Just a click when I turn the key then a click when I let go. At first I thought it was the battery. Had it...

Ive been struggling to figure out what is wrong with my 73 super beetle, soon after fueling up with ethanol for the first time, the car would start and drive for a few miles and then seem to stall. Sometimes it will idle but not rev up and other times it will just completely stall. I have a strange feeling that there is a clog in the lines somewhere as today when my car stalled on the side of the...
