hi, looking at a breaker demolition hammer from america, 115volts, 13.9amps? would this work ok with a stepdown transformer or would it run slow? i know SFA about this sorta stuff cheers...

thanks for the reply's. yeah i think i'll bail on the idea, $1200 from the u.s, then i'll have to source a s/d trans....... Or $2700 from here, 50% cruddy ruddy rebate, no big box following me around, and no problems from workcover! hmm.. 2009's newest blockbuster cinema release - Revenge of the Step Down Transformers?...

Does anyone have experience in using 220v to 110v step-down transformers with Hi-Fi? Is the output clean enough to avoid hum in the audio output? I'm not talking about those cheap thyristor devices; I'm referring to the large, heavy transformers for $100 or so. I was prepared to replace my gear in CH but now I'm realising that a basic $250 A/V receiver is 500CHF or more. German prices ...

I bought a good 1500W step down transformer for my Denon receiver. I have no hum with that. It is kind of large but I have it hidden away behind the shelf. I also bought a transformer for my powered subwoofer, but it was not as high quality as the other one, and that one causes my subwoofer to hum when it's on. Its not really noticeable when listening to music, but in quiet parts of movies ...
