I'll be taking a vacation in Paris in a few weeks. As I understand it, the wall voltage is 230V over there (@50Hz). I'll be staying in an apartment (as opposed to a hotel, with concierge), so being able to connect to the internet there would be real helpful. Questions: -Will the computer be safe using a run of the mill step-down transformer (Radio Shack thing)? -Will the ...

Thanks for the replies guys. Good to know that the Macbook will be ok. Oh, believe me, I don't plan on buying any converters at the airport. Radio Shack has them readily available right here in town. As a side note...I'm assuming the power adapter has a built in voltage regulator. Is there any way to be certain it's working properly? The reason I ask is because my adapter pops sometimes ...

We are using a step up transformer feeding power from Generator ( 480V Delta/4160V Wye). At 480V level, a load bank is connected. I wonder if we could use this transformer as a step down transformer( Wye4160V/480V Delta). The power would be from Utility. The generator would  be disconnected. The problem is, how  will the load bank  be connected to Delta System.

I would take backwards to mean the reverse of a stepdown. It's not important in the way the transformer operates, but it is important in calculating the voltage effect of the taps on the transformer. Both are correct in that there is no backwards, and there is a forwards.

I recently bought a 70's SVT and it requires a Step Down Transformer to run here in Aus. Anyway, sometimes after playing for a while the power to the whole building flicks off, like it engages the safety switch or something. The transformer is rated for 500watts and the back of the SVT says 500watts, would this be the reason this is happening? A new step down is only going to cost me ...

They have many names but you need something to convert 200-240 down to 110. When traveling overseas this is one of the first things to go in my bag. I have a pretty hefty one rated up to 400 watts (you are not going to find one of these at Best Buy). This handles lots of electronic gear that bring... If you are only wanting to charge a cell phone or camera battery you can get by with a much ...
