i have a 84 with 351 windsor not many upgrades recently my starter solenoid went bad replaced it along with starter now i can only drive it mabe 10 miles before it burns up the new solenoid and drains my battery i notice a wire came off the alternator it either came off the ground post or the field post on it im not sure i think it came off recently before i burned up this last solenoid any ideas...

The solenoid should be disengaged once the engine starts. If it's burning up in 10 minutes, it sounds like maybe it's not disengaging. Does the starter continue to run? Is the ignition switch sticking? Is it wired wrong so that power is applied to the "S" post after the key is released? Does the 84 still use the older 4 post or the newer 3 post solenoid? 4 post from a 69...

just to be propper,with solenoid bolted down,+ from batt goes on left terminal,right goes to starter.solenoids are cheap so just change it.

I used to have good luck with Niehoff solenoids but I don't know if Borg-Warner sells them anymore. They were burgundy but in the application guide below, they are shown as grey which is the same color as the Borg-Warner selct product and I could not find where they were made. www.niehoff.com http://ecatalog.smpcorp.com/NIE/

First let me say thanks for replys. Now after 4 aftermarket solenoids and 2 motorcraft solenoids,new starter switch,3 starters,new cables and thats what I can remember off hand;I've been dealing with this problem for about a year now. Thank god it's not my daily driver. Now as for the cable that connects to the solenoid down to the starter thats the cable I touch to the poss. side of the battery ...

I hired an attorney yesterday. I got the call Tuesday morning for the servicing dealership, and the service manager told me that instead of sending me a completely new motor with all new parts, ie: new supercharger, starter, all solenoids and sensors, wiring harness, etc.etc. Sea Doo decided to take the cheaper route and just send a new block.
