The West is like a series of books on a bookshelf - with widely varying climate regions running west to east in narrow bands. From San Francisco you first encounter the Pacific Coastal region that has cool summers and mild, rainy winters. Then you come into the Central Valley that has brutally hot, dry summers. Next up, the Sierra Nevada Mountains with very, cold, very snowy winters ...

asking what the weather in Florida is like during December is almost like asking what the weather will be like in California -- San Diego? Lake Tahoe? It's a surprisingly big state and north to south makes a LOT of difference in temperature. I've never considered Florida that scenic -- guess it depends what you're looking for. But I'd think in terms of the south end of Florida -- the Keys ...

1. The only portion I'm remotely familiar with is up in the Reno, Lake Tahoe, Sacramento area. Not precisely on your route but close. Beautiful riding in Tahoe area and southeast of Sacramento in the "hills" south of Tahoe. 2. The time of year you are going, weather will DEFINITELY be a factor! The deserts can get bone chilling cold, day or night. Higher elevations will be cold and probably...

Put me in the snow tire camp. Last season was my first time WORKING in the snow. That meant that staying home because the weather was bad was no longer an option. I started the season with all season tires on my Audi A4 (AWD). Caltrans was happy to wave me through any sort of checkpoint. I had 3 experiences which caused me to change to snow tires. 1) 2-3 mph, interstate 80, bumper to ...

I'm moving at the end of the month, and I think its either Portland, Denver/Boulder, or Seattle; I'm leaning towards Denver or Boulder at the moment and I need advice! I'm moving because I was laid off from my Las Vegas culinary union Backwaiter job at the Bellagio due to slowing tourism. I will be primarily looking for either server or server assistant positions in either high-volume casual ...

(AP) -- A storm dropped as much as 15 inches of snow in the Sierra Nevada, hastening the state of the ski season but bogging down traffic on mountain highways. The Boreal resort atop Donner Summit reported up to 15 inches of snow from late Monday into Tuesday, and said it hopes to ...

So far I've ridden down to 23 in South Lake Tahoe. Completely comfortable. I commute every day 30 miles of 80+ mph freeway driving at 5 in the morning and this year it's only just getting into the low 40's in Sacramento. I invested in cold gear in a big way and it's amazing. Got windproof thermal base layer of Knox Cold Killers, thick cordura jacket that's wind/waterproof, thermal liner ...

Aye, Lake Tahoe! Squaw Valley in the North and Heavanly in the South have gondola rides that will take pedestrians and their 4x5 kits to the top for incredible views, especially if the weather is good. Truckee, Genoa and Virginia City are all picturesque, as is the Truckee River is it winds it's way from Tahoe City to Reno.

I know, it\'s not a G-Shock but I hope you enjoy the post.... At the request of Jeff C and others, I\'m posting some pics from a recent trip I took on my BMW R1100RS from Florida to Olympic NP and back. It took me three weeks and 9,200 miles. I saw the following notables: Little Big Horn Battlefield, MT; Glacier NP; Grand Coulee Dam, Columbia River; Cascades NP; Anacortes WA; Seattle WA; Port ...
