The Game Fish and Parks advised the 08 brood count shows 8.56 pheasants per mile with the best area in the Central part of the state. This is 64 per cent ahead of the 10 year average. On the flip side of that we lost 260,000 acres last year due to CRP contracts expiring.

Quote: park the truck and walk the ditches You can't do that in SD. I believe they passed that law a few years back. Northwest Iowa should be pretty good expecially by the MN border and southern MN.

Well guys unfortunately i am back in NY, yet it was an amazing trip i had the time of my life out there in NE South Dakota. We tottaled 55 pheasants, 4 snow geese, 1 mallard, 3 shoveler ducks, 2 bluebills, and one beautiful drake goldeneye which is getting put on the wall. We saw a lot of pheasants and the duck hunting had been better other years but this year was still good. All the lakes ...

I'm a hunting widow, just not a deer hunting one. My husband hunts ducks, pheasants and grouse. He's been gone 1 week to canada and several other weekends. Next wed. he leaves for south dakota for a week of pheasant hunting. I get to pack his food and stay home and work and take care of 1 dog. I can hardly wait. By this time of the season I'd like to be able to make plans on a weekend ...

Each year around early November my father makes his annual trip to eastern South Dakota to pheasant hunt. This yearly trip is what convinced me to move to this part of the country. I've always looked forward to this trip growing up for the hunting aspect of the outing. But now my time to hunt and see my father is very limited. 1500 miles separated us and other than this particular week and ...

[quote="Botiz630 anyone know anything about south dakota? been there once to pheasant hunt and it was outstanding.[/quote] I lived there for a few years and have been going back as a non-resident hunter for over 20 years. There is plenty of hunting for whatever you're looking for. Especially Duck, Pheasants and deer. Here are a few pics from this years duck hunt....

My dad made his first trip ever up to South Dakota for his first ever pheasant hunt. They arrived Friday after the blizzard and hunted from Saturday through Tuesday getting limits everyday but one, plus a few jack rabbits and prairie chickens. The farm they hunted usually releases a few birds but there were so many pheasants this year the farmer hasn't released any. The only pic of birds ...

There are NO huntable wild pheasant populations ANYWHERE in Maryland, and have not been for quite some time. There may still be some small pockets of wild birds in PA on PRIVATE land, but they are far and few between. The put and take or stocked bird hunting on PA State Game lands is a joke anymore. I hunted on PA State Game Lands from 1984 up until about 4 years ago. It was great in the 80's ...

DMC - Agree. They have flooded most of Gray Lodge. It is a waterfowl WA! They don't care for pheasants. This is the first year the "Crosstown Sportsman" didn't show up. They were an institution. I talked to one of the members last year. Only 6 showed and he said they won't come back. No pheasants!. It's a shame, they could take a lesson from South Dakota (Yes, I know, we will never...

Hello, I live very in Minnesota close the South Dakota border so I may be able to help you out. I can't say much about making your land profitable, around here that usually means leasing your land to a farmer to grow corn or soybeans. However you can invest in making your land benefit you and the environment, which may not make money right now but will benefit future generations. First I would ...

My husband, 17 year old son and I just returned from the Parkston, SD area (south of Mitchell). We hunted Wed. Nov. 5-9th. it was 70 degrees Wed. am, and 38 degrees Wed. pm. Then the winds kicked in and the temps dropped to about 29 degrees, so if you go, wear layers! And carry water bottles for your dogs! Our trip cost us about $1100 for the 3 of us. Gas was "only" $2.19 a gallon, so to and ...

I've hunted pheasant for most of my life, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska. I've mainly used a Stevens 12 ga pump, 26" barrel with an adjustable choke, #5 shot. Learned to hunt with a single shot 20 ga Ithaca.
