I was using an average laptop - recording Serato + recording using a demo version of Sound Forge 8 - worked great. I then switched to Audacity + Serato and was getting the issues you mentioned - Audacity + Serato is a bit of a strain. Try downloading the 30 day trial of Sound Forge and see how you get on, Also zoom out fully on the waveform prior to starting your mix in Audicity - ...
