Made a mistake and bought a cheap 40 degree bag for camping in Utah. Forecast for a couple of weekend trips was 80s during the day, high 40s at night. Big difference in temps between the towns where the forecast came from and out where I was camping. First time I used it the temp got down to 39 and I froze, barely slept. 2 Weeks later I picked a lower altutude place to camp, forecast ...

x2 what Hltoppr said - it is less about the tent and more about the sleeping pad and bag. Regardless of tent material, if you are relying on your body heat alone to warm up the tent interior, it's not going to make a big difference. A 30 degree bag is basically the 'least warm' bag you can get, so I wouldn't expect it to do much. A thick sleeping pad or mat will make a big difference, so ...

air does not insulate, with that said, an air mattress or cot will NOT keep you warm if you're winter camping. If you want to keep warm you need insulation from the cold ground, a downmat or synmat work best, even a foam thermarest works well. Make sure your not wearing your sweaty socks\shirt from the day before when you get into your bag or you will be cold and wet and you will be ...

What I do is I bought in Walmart a sheet of their sleeping bag liner foam ( the foam you put under a sleeping bag which is thin but tough). I take out the middle foam board from my pelican case and put it away, then put one gun on the botton Pelican foam, lay the cut to Pelican case sized Walmart foam on top of the first rifle then lay the second rifle on top of the Walmart foam and close the lid...

I haven't bought recently, so I am not up to speed on current models and won't comment on them. The temperature rating is usually based on either measured maximum loft or measured maximum air entrainment. However, other factors also have a big effect on comfort. Factors include especially compressability, fit and the perceived specific temperature of the material. Water controll, ...
