Hey, I recently picked up a Rascal frame, and I'm wondering which forks to go with. It is my understanding that the bike was built up around a rigid fork and I've found a nice chro-mo one for a decent price. Question is if an older suspension fork can be had for a comprable price (or a bit more) will it throw off the handling of the bike? I've never ridden a Rascal stock so I don't have a ...

Folding Bikes

I bought a dahon boardwalk ($199) as a winter bike. It was a singlespeed coaster brake version which meant it had horizontal drops on it. I picked up a cheap fixed gear hub and converted it to fixed gear which seemed to help on the ice. Single speed drive trains are very easy to keep clean in the winter and the bike was cheap enough that if it only lasted a few winters I wasn't ...

Any bike can make a decent commuter if it meets a few basic requirements: Reliable (this is why the $50 Wal-Mart special fails) Proper fit Designed to accommodate general street use Comfortable Designed to handle the riding conditions in your area Bikes for sale at the local bike shops don't always meet these criteria. A technical full suspension mountain bike isn't a great...

I've had my brand new 2008 Ninja 250R for a bit over a week now, have put on 400kms, and thought I'd share my first impressions with those of you considering this bike. For the record, I'm new to riding in NZ, but I'm not a new rider and have spent most of my 6 years riding time on 650-1100 sport cruiser types. Overall, the bike is well put together and handles well. I've ridden it in the ...

the frame is made in tawain i think. most of the bikes in this price range are tawainase made. The steamroller is an excellent commuter bike. Room for wider tires. fender and rack mounts would make nice features for a commuter but you win some you lose some.

My greasy project for last weekend was converting my Bianchi Volpe to a fixed-gear/single speed. This will be my first derailleur free bike since I gave up my Schwinn Stingray in about 1972. I took it for shake down cruise of about 25 miles last weekend and then commuted on it every day this week (about 15 miles round trip daily). After my first week of riding, I have two observations: 1. I'm ...

I will start the clean up process, so she's all purty and sparkly, takes some pics, and post her up for $600, will probably take $550. I have 3 sets of tires, including the stock Bontrager Jones 2.2's, a set of Panaracer fire crosses 2.0 (?), and studded commuter tires. I will probably put only one set on and keep the other 2 for the new bike. I rode the El Mariachi this week end, but think ...
