Not sure if my fixie wears any better or worse than a normal geared bike but here are some reasons I like to use it :- 1. Simplicity, something nice about not having the gear selection. To go faster, pedal faster, that's it! 2. Parts that do need changing are generally cheaper. 3. Easier to clean esp during winter. 4. CAN be lighter than your average road bike. 5. Because of the ...

My single speed (read fixed) wear out quicker due to me 'changing gears'. READ frame. is getting effed up. Get a multi-gear especially if you are a newbie and need the gears...

I'm using a Specialized Langster (2006 version - the first one they made) and I'd recommend it as a commuter and general runabout. Maintenance is simple with single gear bikes especially if you use the fixed rather than freewheel hub option - ie minimum wear on the brake pads and wheel rims.

I have been fund raising for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, riding in my bicycle in the LiveSTRONG Challenge series. http://www.livestrongchallenge.org/site/c.frKPI1PA IoE/b.3920... This year I rode in the Portland, OR event, and then was invited to participate in Ride for the Roses weekend, and ride in the Austin ,TX LiveSTRONG Challenge event. Welcome to KB If you have no experience at all on bikes then the Scorpio would be my pick for a complete newby. I road a GN for a year and 25000km before I got my ninja 250 and it was a good cheap progression to a faster bike. No bins and no tickets have added to a fun 2 years of riding. I just rode the back roads and mostly by myself to reduce the need for straight-line speed. ...

This is the perfect thread to ask a few questions... I have a few mountain bikes, and I want to build up one using some of my BMX parts and parts on those bikes. 1) I want it to be a 9 speed. Im so fucking sick of my front derailleur and much prefer the look and simplicity of a single gear. I ride way too many hills to go completely one speed, so, thats not an option. Can I use my old profiles to...

Sunday 9th November 2008 was a cold, blustery day with rain threatening at any moment. Marshall Honda had arranged an Open Test Day for my bike club. Just over a dozen hardy souls set off from Boston for the 80 odd mile run to the Marshall showrooms. By the time we got there we were cold and stiff but a great supply of hot coffee and cookies and delicious jam doughnuts, soon had us feeling ...

Picked up the KR150 today. Looks to be in really good nick. But sitting upon it, after the Yami, felt like sitting on a Leggo bike.:--(( But Billy (our KB Billy) assures me this bike is good for 170 plus, even with my large and aging frame atop it. Sadly, I'll never know cos it doesn't have a speedo. :--(( And, apparently, is likely to be quicker through the corners than the Yami....except I...
