I believe in ideal weather conditions bear spray is effective but if I'm carrying both and the stuff has hit the fan my sidearm would always be drawn first. I understand your point... you can never be to careful up here. _______________________ The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.. I was reading another thread where it was mentioned that they would like to see more pointers about being on the trail/hiking/etc. For newbies (though there may be a nugget or two in here for veterans) to hiking/camping, here's my "Hiking Packing Basics 101." I swear, I'm not from the "Food Saver" company, but I have found so many uses for it that they should totally pay me as a spokesman....

It seems to me that pistols (handguns) are the weapon of choice amongst the hard core criminal element. The school shootings and occasional 7-11 robbery with long barrels are the exception. It's hard to hide a rifle in those baggy pants the punks are sportin nowadays. Canada has had serious gun control for 100 years now. Hunters are PO'd because they have to have possession and/or ...

Iron, I see some of your points, but I think it's a shame when "the majority" of a country's residents (Canada) who don't care about giving up their rights to guns for personal protection also want residents who care care very much about their gun rights to give up theirs. A gun for personal protection is decidedly unlike about any other right I can think of. It's broadly a "rural" folks ...

howdy, you should be fine packin a sidearm so long as it's not concealed. If your packin a 1911 (I assume a .45) load it hot or pick up some ammo made specifically for bear protection. otherwise I'd file the front sight off so when a big ol griz takes the pistol and shoves it up your arse it won't hurt as much good luck and good fishin.
