I generally like open sights for all around use, since they allow for precise shooting when you need it and can be overlooked when you need to point shoot. However these Mossberg sights just seem to be too chunky and don't seem to do either job all that well.

I was wondering what is considered "good" shooting, for a group of say 5 shots at 100 yards with open sights? I was shooting my dad's mini-14 this weekend, first time I had really taken it out to shoot, and at 50 yards was able to consistently get 2" groups. Then moved out to 110-120yds and fired off 11 shots and got a group of about 8" which I was a little disappointed with. No excuses, but it ...

.270 Winchester, 7mm Remington magnun, good ole 30-06, and my favorite bottleneck cartridge (I still like 45-70's best ) .338 winchester magnum. I had a Ruger 77 .338 that shot like a varmit rifle, 1/2-34 inch groups at 100 yards were common with that rifle. I can't believe I was such a dumb-ass and sold it to fund another gun project. You will find something that shoots great with that .308 DPMS...
