Anyone tried using an extra fine ceramic sharpening stone as a platen for a belt grinder? Its the hardest, most wear resistant surface I can think of unless I can get my hands on a sheet of sapphire or tungsten carbide large enough for a platen. I use window glass as a platen but they wear out and don't give as good a grind.

After declaring several times my fear of learning how to use a stone, I broke down and bought one yesterday. Rationale: I have two really nice knives, and lot of OK knives. I have no problem sharpening the OK ones on an electric. A number of people (including some here) have scared me off of using the electric on the nice ones. If I send them out, I have no control over what happens to ...

Could be implemented. You sharpen yoru sword once, you get a +1. But your sword's duribility (chance to break in combat) has gone up 10%. sharpen again your sword gets a +2, But your sword's duribility (chance to break in combat) has gone up 20% sharpen again and get a final +3. The problem is that the smaller the angle of the blade the sharper the knife but the quicker it will dull. The harder the steel the longer the blade will last BUT the harder they are to sharpen. The fillet knife dulls very fast because it is sharpened at a low angle for sharpness then it hits bone which bends or rolls the fine edge. The Steel is used to straighten the fine edge and the stone ...

I purchased a Lansky sharpening system and sharpened a few of my kitchen knives with it and was very pleased with the results. While sharpening, the drawbacks of this system became apparent quite quickly--they've been mentioned here many times. 1. Sharpening a knife longer than 4 inches is a pain because of unclamping and re-clamping. 2. When using the 17 degree hole, the screws that hold the ...

Stopped a couple times to scrub the stone to ensure the best cutting performance. The problem is that one side WILL NOT sharpen up. Its like I can't get al the way through the original bevel. Its hard to...
