Yup, it's a generic test for inflammation, also known as ESR. The inflammation itself can come from anywhere; any inflammatory disease, stress, colds and flu, surgery, injury or even too much exercise. A few people just run higher than average SED rates and there's nothing wrong at all. I have a type of inflammatory arthritis and mine runs between 50 and 80. "Normal" is usually 0 - 20, but ...

Question Hi my 9 yr old son has been sick for a month. After several xrays, blood tests , 5 x repeat of the antiobiotic amoxycilin @ clav 2 x 10 ml day & a turbuhale 2 - 3 x day this is the outcome. Left lung minor infection, ESR of 91, platelets rising with each blood test currently at 520 were 460 a week ago. Iron deficient even though having been on a iron supplement for 6 months. When I saw a Gastroenterologist last month, he mentioned that my Sed Rate was up (one of my blood test results). We discussed a lot of other things and I forgot to ask about it. The only other time a doctor mentioned it was 30+ years ago when I was a teenager with knee pain. I thought it was associated with suspected arthritis. What does SED stand for, and what does it measure?

Hello Everyone. I need help really bad. Okay, I had a tumor in my spleen last year. It was said that it was low grade cancer but when removed( june 07), cancer free. The spleen had 49 nodules.
