Encryption of Pay TV relies on two mechanisms. Scrambling or Encryption of the audio and video and secondly, management of commercial entitlements which have to be transmitted as secured messages to the satellite decoder box. I have found encryption can easily be applied to a digital bitstream, all bits are encrypted by using a block cipher like DES. Scrambling is used for analogue ...

The satellite providers have a constant wave going, in these cases ppl protest that the satellite company uses their land to help transmit a uniform signal, so the free to air came about. What causes the problems is that you usually have to use a Dish Network or Direct TV transponder and dish to intercept the signal. This is where it becomes a problem, as you're using a contract binded piece of ...

So here is the problem. Let me know if I have this right. First of all, I was told that my receiver does NOT have to be hooked up to the satellite to do this. Is this true? I'll tell you what I've been doing so far, but no luck. I've tried 6 times now. 1. I shut the power off on the receiver and then shut the switch off on the back, and then unplug all the cables. 2. I bring the ...

OK, so I bought a brand new 722 assuming we could watch the OTA tuner in real time from either TV1 or TV2. Not true! You can only control the TV2 satellite tuner, or play back recordings, from the TV2 remote. OTA channels aren't even displayed on the TV2 EPG. But what if they were? Suppose Dish rewrote the firmware to display the same guide on both TVs, and when you Select an OTA ...
