via MacNN: Fujitsu on Monday announced the launch of its 2.5-inch, 10,000RPM MBD2 RC- and 15,000RPM MBE2 RC-series of 6Gbps Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) enterprise hard disk drives. Compared to the previous-generation drives, capacity is doubled thanks to Fujitsu's use of perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, which also reduced power consumption to class-leading levels, according to...

With the way these drives are tested most of those tweaks do not apply since I am not booting off of the test drive. I am in the process of testing the OCZ recommended tweaks on a boot drive in a spare notebook. To be honest this article is going to be a little ways out since I have several in line before it. To summerize my findings to date, the tweaks work as long as you are experienced ...

It does not go up 100% because your using each drive less. You are just figure event risk. 2 drives: 50%. You are on each drive 1/2 the time. I think you are confusing how increased probability of failure works. Truthfully, its not used in the design process because we know what is the best practice on implementation. MTBF is not a figure a engineer uses in design and implementation. We design ...

Hey, I updated the BIOS on my H8QM3-2 (with Barcelona 8356 CPU and onboard LSI 1068E SAS Controller) and ESX won't start, giving me the "mounting root failed" error. Tried starting up with the noapic-option passed to the kernel, the startup freezes at the loading of the "VMkernel mptscsi_2xx.o" module. A reinstallation does not help either as it can not find hard drives. Installing with the ...

I tun a typical small shop, 100 or so users. In early 2007, I was facing an undersized, aging file server. was also loking at the incresing number of software that rely on HTTP to communicate and that most do not play well toghether. Getting a new physical machine for each is just insane, so I took the plung and bought a new server and installed ESX on it. Decent machine, a pair of Xeon 5160...
