Got in the surf at the water tower near the Pass at the crack of dawn and quickly caught my bait-finger mullet. First cast with a gold spoon got a quick strike and hook thrown by guess what? A skipjack jumped and before I could reel another foot, I had another strike. I must have spent twenty minutes casting the spoon and getting strike after strike from the skippers. I put out a live mullet ...

My brother wants to take my son and I out to San Luis Pass this coming Saturday for my birthday. Does anyone know if the flounder are likely to be running as hard there as I feel they will be closer to the GYC? I'd like to stick to the GYC and SWP area because I believe this front coming thru is going to flood the area with flounder, but my Bro thinks we'll have better luck heading to San Luis....

Beautiful day, fished falling tide around the pass, around Mud Island. Two 15" flounder to show for the day. Caught quite a few small rat reds, a few small flounder, big sheephead, but no quality fish. Fished live shrimp, finger mullet, gulps, soft plastics, but nothing worked.

Four of us fishing, with shrimp, finger mullet, gulps, soft plastics, your name it. We managed two flatties 18-19", one 20" red. That was it. Water was nice, fished falling tide. Quite a few small Reds, but none of any size. Fished Cold Pass, Titlum Tatlum, in the Pass. There were quite a few boats catching large Drum under to bridge, by free lining shrimp. Did not see any Bulls caught.

On Sunday I went fishing with my lady and best freind. We drove under the galveston bridge to the bayside. We were posted up catching a few nice flounder and trout. What pizzed me off was a truck full of about 10 illegals parked right next to us keeping everything they caught. One had about a 10 inch drum. They all were using coke cans as a reel. I know they were illegals cause they were ...

Would like to know if there is boat launch access to Chocolate Bay from the San Luis Pass area? I see on a map that there is a straight canal just west of the pass, but I don't know if there is a boat launch there. I have a small 16' aluminum tunnel hull and would like to try that area. Can anyone here offer suggestions on where I could launch? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

The fish weren't biting, but there were plenty of birds. My wife was feeding the gulls, soon there was a huge flock wheeling and diving, I could not resist trying to get some 'closeups' with a 300mm lens. All the shots are on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/4057729...76224705299 33/

I spoke with Cotton who was the night manager at the pier and he told me it will not be rebuilt because the owner lost the land to the county aka the neighborhood j**k-offs. The pier will be missed.

On Oct 14, 2009, I took a trip to the San Luis Pass fishing pier located just South of Galveston Island and shot video of the pier and beach area as it is now, over a year after Ike destroyed the area. The video is here : Or copy the url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZu5H7lp_vo and paste into your browser. The Pier is not going to be rebuilt. New beach homes have taken ...
