If I didn't have to or want to have a hand gun, Savage or Remington would be my hands-down favarite - by far. Remington for their shotguns & (secondly) for their rifles and Savage for their rifles, muzzle-loaders & (thirdly) for their shotguns.

Ahhh, L frame S&Ws and Ruger GP-100. I consider these revolvers to be the Pinnacle of .357 Magnum revolver design. Both came at an era where the revolver was beginning to be replaced in popularity by semi auto handguns. The L frame is considered by many to be one of the very best revolvers Smith and Wesson has ever made.

I never said you couldn't use one 'billy. It's just that I know it takes time to enjoy and get wel versed in handguns and sometimes we need to make choices. I just traded a handgun [AP-9] that I hardly used and got a new Ruger P-95 for only $32. I also have a limited budget for my burning of gunpowder, but I'm single and I can live on very little extras if it gets me my latest toy.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I have no experience with either Ruger or Remington centerfire rifles. My Rugers are handguns and they're rugged and reliable. My Remingtons are a pair of rimfires and again, they work very well (as long as I don't feed 'em Remington rimfire ammo).

Ruger number one? Not! Just about every new model gun they've put in the last year or two has had a recall on it. On top of that, many of the current production handguns made in the couple of years, had production quality problems with them...........like my p95 just bought June of last year. Way too many recalls and folks that have had to send their guns back to ruger, just to get the gun ...

I just bought a SS Ruger GP 100 last February. And that was done after comparring it to a SW 686. My very first, ever handgun was a SW 686, 6 inch first bought in 1990 long before SW started using MIM and internal lock in its handguns. I should have been so happy with it and kept it, but I was not so I traded it away in 1992. So, I would suggest the Ruger

My wife shoots any and all handguns she can get her hands on. She has a Colt Defender, 2 Sig P220s, a Taurus PT145, Ruger SP101 (.357), Kahr CW9, Taurus PT111, Springfield XD-9, Kel-Tec P3AT, etc, etc... not to mention the long guns that she has. And, she's still whining because she hasn't gotten a Baby Eagle yet! She loves handguns, and loves to shoot...She carries the Kahr CW9. She ...

I agree with the recommendation for a 4" SW or Ruger. They are arguably the most versatile handguns and with the ammo options available, should serve you well from downtown to remote wilderness.

Long guns: Remington SabreDefense Springfield Browning Handguns: Smith & Wesson Ruger SIG CZ Dan Wesson Kahr I have multiples of some brands, but I can't say I have a "brand loyalty." I do research the weapons first, usually, for reliability reports and customer service reviews. What do all of my firearms have in common? They work They fit my hand, and...
