So I have seedlings in the dome tray (dome off) in rapid rooters(willow bark)in the plug incerts. First with no water in the bottom.Now that the roots appear at bottom they start to dry and turn brown. Heres the catch! when I have the medium moist from watering on top the roots dry up. whats up guys? i just germinated some seeds in rapid rooters and after they rooted i placed them in rock wool blocks on my table under a shoplight. after two days i noticed some white stuff on the rapid rooters but not on the blocks. is that powdrey mildew or the beginning of algae? i can whipe it off and it comes back. i havent use nutrients just distilled water so its not salt buildup ...

are you using Rapid Rooters, or just some off brand? and when I looked back I thought you had said that you were'nt using a heat mat for under your tray? I was wondering why? I use rapid rooters in a propagation tray with a dome and get roots in 5-7 days. I think it is really important to have a heating mat for seedlings or cuttings, the plant needs a source of heat that isn't the light, to promote growth. In this case the growth we want is roots, so if the source of heat is from below not above it should help. also I would switch your rooter plugs to something different, like rapid rooters. not sure where you are getting your bugs from but...
