A cross bike is definitely more like a road bike than an MTB. The geometry of the frames typically has a higher bottom bracket, but the seat and head tube angles are very close to that of a road bike. They are lightweight (if you pay) and quick handling just like a road bike too. I actually used my cross bike for road racing for a spell because of an "incident" with my regular road bike. Just...

look at the horizontal top tube length on the road bike and get the same on the cross bike or a smidge shorter. Your 60 is too big I assume. The Cannondale will be a nice ride I bet. Some shops believe in the "one size smaller" method, that's generally a relic of the past, just get something like your road bike and bring the bars a little closer and higher with stem and spacer and you'll be ...
