Reinstalling XP with the recovery CD inserted. At startup autorun begins and starts downloading. Immediately after selecting the partition to format, I receive instructions that the hard drive is not recognized ??? I am not having problems with the computer, I simply want to clean install and remove years of unneeded work...whats up ??? 1 person needs an answer I do too

Hello, my Son recently reformatted his Sony Vaio laptop. He cannot now use his recovery cd to reinstall the Vista operating system. He says that he did not 'wipe' the recovery partition- though I do not know this for sure? is there any way that he can reinstall Vista from his recovery cd? I have an HP Pavilion 304w with a preinstall of Win XP Home, I want to make a new Recovery CD set for it so I can fully wipe out the hard drive. The problem is that when I run the creator, it always stops while reading my files stating that it can't access the pagefile.sys. Is there somewhere I can get that fixed?

I purchased a dell 1470 today at best buy and they assured me that the windows 7 recovery cd was included, however, it was not. Anyone know if I need to go through best buy to get this or can i get it from dell directly? Thanks,

Does anyone have this or maybe an OEM XP Pro. I bought my laptop from a refurbisher and don't have media. I now want to install Windows 7 upgrade but need a running XP Pro system. Anyone have this? I will use it and send it back if you prefer.

you can buy a set from Lenovo. But it would be better if someone decides to help you out with these discs. You could also try marketplace forum.thinkpads.com and see whether there is anyone whom wants to help you out, or buy a set for a cheap price.

Hi, The harddisk needs to be erased of all traces of file system, this is why XP would not install. Download and burn to cd Darik's Boot & Nuke.
