I recently purchased a new computer and started the build around an MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard. The mb came with a driver install disc on which I found drivers for Realtek High Definition Audio, which I installed. Now I have no sound. If I go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager I see both ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio and Realtek High Definition Audio, as well...

I have 5.1 selected in everything but it doesnt seem to be functioning like it would in XP or Vista. I can only hear symbals and light noises coming out of the back speakers and the subs arent receiving anything. If I "test" the speakers in the Realtek tool they all work fine. Thoughts? Have other people experienced this?

I'm running XP with SP3 and, yes, all the volume controls are all the way up, nothing is muted, and the speakers work fine on the PC sitting right next to it....

I have a macbook pro, and I have been told that I need to install the latest Realtek HD audio drivers, as the drivers included on the OSX cd are not the right ones. I have downloaded both the executable installer for the drivers, and the zip file, but whichever way I approach it, after installation and restarting, I'm left with a little red x over my audio icon in the bottom right, no sound, ...

The ATI function driver is for your video card. You likely have one of the new ATI cards with HDMI output. The Realtek driver is your actual audio chipset driver. Try removing it using Add and Remove programs, reboot, and install it again. You may also want to look for a newer driver on the MSI website.
