The stock 0.9 bar cap should be just fine for 99% of people out there. As far as reliability and higher pressure caps, both my Eclipse and my MR2 have had 1.3 bar caps on them for many years (7 years on the Eclipse and 9 years on the MR2). MR2 guys report that the 1.5 bar caps present no problems as well. Other than the caps, my cooling systems are stock. So, it's probably not going to hurt...

As long as the hoses, etc., are in good condition, it shouldn't be a problem. You should, if you do a lot of low speed trail riding, consider a coolant recovery bottle. Search around, there have been several posts on home-mades.

check that radiator cap.. if steam is comin out of your overflow.. its leakin outta your pressure cap... they go bad often.. replace and check... and your heater will only work if you can pressurize the system.. but to let you konw.. your engine should run about 180, not 90... just thought i'd let you know.. unless you mean Celcius.. lol and yes.. there could be an air bubble in the heater ...

not my problem fellas. I just replaced the expansion tank cap 2 weeks ago and it solved nothing. Also, had the new one pressure tested. The fitment of the upper radiator hose was the culprit. The dimensions suggested that it came off the same die the dealer hose did, but it was different enough that it wouldn't fit unless a kink was introduced to the bend (hard to describe). One ...

If you buy (or have) a coolant pressure tester, use that on your car, it goes on in place of the radiator cap and you pump it up to pressurize the cooling system. Then if you remove the rubber intake tubing that goes up to your black plastic upper intake manifold you may get lucky and be able to see the coolant leaking in there. Its worked for me. Also, when you pressurize the cooling system, ...

You could pressure test the cooling system and check the pressure rating of the radiator cap. It is supposed to be 13 psi. If it's normal overflow, then a catch can is a good thing to have.

Coolant has probably escaped and air has taken its place. Air bubble will cause overheating as it circulates. Check the coolant level and check for leaks. Maybe needs a new pressure cap? The T-piece behind top of radiator is favourite leaky place on 1.8T. TC TC

ok heres the update. I blew radiator end cap off due to way too much pressure. I bled the system for like a whole day before that. I took head off and it had a new felpro head gasket. Nothing looked or appeared to be wrong with it. I also before removal of head took belt off motor and top line off rad and filled with water and started truck to check for air bubles. It slowly crept out line ...
