Do any of you that work out pretty regularly use any kind of protein supplements? A friend of mine from my gym who is also a personal trainer has recommended that I start drinking a protein powder mixed with milk or water after I workout. He also said that a supplement called Glutamine (which I think is an amino acid?) could help with muscle recovery ...

Whether you get your protein from supplements or real food, the body won't tell the difference. I am guessing he is telling you to stop to lower your protein intake. This doesn't mean you need to drop whey protein, just lower your overall protein intake. Doctors have a huge dislike for supplements.
