I just got the Grizzly Christmas sales catalog, and noticed that they have a big disclaimer on the portable electric generators. Saying that they can't be shipped to California, why??. Is it some kind of noise, pollution or gasoline ordinance or is it just California being California??

There is a wealth of information available through Google or just about any search engine for Pogo Possum or Walt Kelly. IMO, Walt Kelly was the best cartoonist ever born. I once heard Al Capp say that Kelly was the only cartoonist he ever got mad at - when he wasn't as good as he could be. Memory, faulty though it is, tells me I first read the quote in a daily strip or maybe the "Sunday...

I need to pickup a new emergency generator about 5000+ watts for my house. I have a 20 amp transfer switch tied into my breaker panel. While checking out generators at a few local stores, I found that all are 30 amp. My question is, can I connect a 30 amp generator to a 20 amp transfer switch witout having to worry? Thanks for any advice

bull, I'd be reluctant to feed the house through a transfer switch with a breaker that's smaller than the one on the generator. BTW, how many circuits does the existing transfer switch support?

portable generators-quiet ones? permalink Just got the check from canceling the insurance on the bike clubs shuttle bus and the club needs to spend the windfall before the end of the year. We were thinking about a small, 1000-2000 W, portable generator. Cost and noise are big considerations. I suspect that it will only be used 15 to 20 hours a year, unless ...

Re: portable generators-quiet ones? permalink I think the noise is a problem for some people because they don't like talking over something as loud as a lawnmower 15 feet away. I'd go with the Honda.

Looking at bringing one with me, but not sure what size would be good. Difference between 4000 to 5000 watts can be a few hundred bucks. So would 4000 be enough for a frig/AC/lights..or would 5000 be a safer bet. Scott
