For ****s sake, the LGA775 packaged 670 Pentium 4 was 3.8 ghz. They wanted to release a higher clocked proc but they quickly ran into power issues and thermal issues. I think the TDP they were looking at for the 4ghz was 150+ watts, and the heat generation was getting bad enough that intel invented a new formfactor to better facilitate airflow. BTX.
