Hey, im looking to overclock my Q6700 to around 3.2Ghz and I was wondering if anyone had any info on how exactly to do it, would I be able to get it to 3.2Ghz with stock voltage using a Zalman 9700 for CPU cooler? If anyone has any links how to overclock the Q6700 to 3.2Ghz that would be fantastic. If you think I could get higher then 3.2Ghz safely please let me know. Thanks in advance... NZXT...

you need to check this out before you go any further. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] uals-guide In a nutshell, you need to increase the front side bus speed and make sure the memory is running at the right divider. FWIW most intel boards are not good for overclocking.

You have a decent aftermarket HSF, so I wouldn't worry too much about the heat. Just go into the BIOS and raise the FSB gradually, stress-testing with every step, until you hit 3.2 GHz. (You'll probably need to raise the Vcore up a notch or two, though.) Also, if you haven't done so already, lap the CPU heatspreader. Doing so to my Q6600 really evened out the core temps.

As you can see from the title I have a Q6700 (with a Akasa AK-967) on a Foxconn X48 board, my ram is OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz. So far I have been able to push the CPU to 3.3ghz P95 1hr stable with a slight increase to the voltages (both CPU and NB). I appear to have hit a block at 3.3Ghz but I'm sure I should be able to get this to 3.5. One issue I have ...

i went from an e8400 @ 3.8 to a q6700 that can do the same speed, at the same speed the q6700 was at worst equal to and usually better than... i'd look to a good overclocking quad before you put money into a whole new platform

I recommended this board for my friend's first gaming PC (coupled with a 2.66GHz Q6700). I helped him build it and in less than 20 minutes we had the chip running happily at 3.33Ghz. This was by no means the limit of overclocking, but the temps went over 60 and he became nervous (yea, i know). Anyway, it is a great board and I know that it will run much higher than what we got it to. Also, the ...
