It's not natural for them, that's a new one. My suggestion would be to have them both fixed or you are going to have a puppy having puppies. By neutering and spaying your pets you will be adding several years on to thier lives. Neutering a male eliminates the possibility of testicular tumors and greatly reduces the chance of prostate problems. Neutering decreases the incidence of ...

Quote: Controvesial as this statement may be. But there are some trainers that say if you can handle not letting the dog roam NOT TO neuter until the dog is fully mature. If the two other males are neutered, I would suggest neutering him before he hits maturity. I see more problems between males that are altered and males that are unaltered, as opposed to all ...

I would absolutely wait. But you MUST keep him away from female dogs ...don't want any more puppies running around . Not only can early neutering change the body shape, but it can also have negative long term effects on his health (increase chances of cancer). I spayed my dog at 6 months, and it is my worst regret so far with her. You can easily train a male dog not to mark inside. With or...

Same thing here, wasn't sure about the destroying-things-around-the-house thing but you just reminded me and he wasn't that bad before neuter. However I wasn't sure if it was a 'finally comfy at home', or 'possibly due to neuter'. Either way, same exact situation. Misskiwi, can you weigh in on this? I can't figure out how it makes sense. It's like before he was neutered, he ...

I was just going through pictures of Belle and realized how much she's changed! Just under 9 months ago she looked like this and now she looks like this! I do have a question too. She's 10 months old now and still hasn't had her first heat? We don't plan on breeding her (dh insists on waiting until she's 2 to spay for what I'm thinking are 'old wives tales' as far as joints/...

After reading this thread, I've thought a lot about neutering my dogs(both male and female). I am now in a position that if I had an unspayed bitch and she became pregnant, I have the funds to have her aborted. I also have no qualms about destroying unborn puppies(an issue for some). Not that I'm ever irresponsible about containing my animals, but I was thinking. If you have a bitch in ...

I've told you all the stories of the crazy old coot with his Pit x Lab mixes (1F with her litter of 4 male pups now populating my neighborhood). Then, there is another hoarder who has 8+ indoor dogs & 4 who are always outside constantly escaping. Then, there's a new one one her way to being a hoarder with 4 adults & 4 new pups. Then, there's my neighbor with the unaltered Lab...

well I have two Chihuahuas that are brothers and 2 years of age, One is an alpha male who was attacked by another dog when he was younger and this has resulted in him becoming very aggressive towards ANY dog seen outside when I walk him. I have to physically put him into a submissive position (hold him down on his back) to keep him in line. The other one was the "runt" of the litter (see ...

Well, here I am. After trying valiantly for what seems like days NOT to post anything....I just cannot keep my fingers off the keys! BOL So many things... One: I don't believe a petition to Ban Cesar is necessary, nor a good idea for freedom of speech. There are many scary, nasty things out there in our world but I don't consider Cesar to be one of them. This does NOT mean that I agree ...

I hate asking this, to no end, because I am a huge advocate of neutering for the various social aspects, as well as health, however... When I adopted Cyrus, the shelter estimated him at 3 yrs old. Vet and I presumed that was a miss guess, and edited it to 1.5/2yrs max. I neutered him about 8 months after (when Jasper was around 6-7 months) - making Cyrus around 2.5/3 yrs old. ...

call your local animal shelters to see if they have recommendations for low cost neuter vets. If you can't afford the neutering bill, you won't be able to afford the puppies that she is going to have if you have them together (whether she looks like she is in heat or not) not a good idea to have two unaltered pups together. I appreciate you trying to help a coworker and his dog! But it sounds...

Kiki's Mom wrote: We counsel all of our puppy people to please wait until at least 14 months of age. The hormonal development and muscular-skeletal development are directly related. The hormone fluctuation between the ages of 9-13 months tell the growth plates when to go ahead and close which in turns tells the long bones and muscles when to stop growing as well.
